What are the importance and types of intelligence?

Intelligence

Intelligence comes from the Latin word intelligere "to understand," which makes sense because it refers to someone's ability to understand things. It is defined as general cognitive problem-solving skills. A mental ability involved in reasoning, perceiving relationships and analogies, calculating, learning quickly… etc. Intelligence is most often studied in humans but has also been observed in both non-human animals and in plants.

Intelligence is important because it has an impact on many human behaviours. It gives humans the cognitive abilities to learn, form concepts, understand, and reason, including the capacities to recognize patterns, comprehend ideas, plan, solve problems, and use language to communicate. Intelligence enables humans to experience and think.

Here are seven simple daily habits you can work into your routine to sharpen your intelligence:
  1. Follow ideas through to various outcomes.
  2. Add 10-20 minutes of aerobic exercise to your day.
  3. Engage in stimulating conversation.
  4. Take online courses.
  5. Give your brain a break.
  6. Practice a hobby.
  7. Look, Listen, Learn.

There are three distinct types of intelligence that a person can possess. These three types are practical intelligence, creative intelligence, and analytical intelligence.

Practical intelligence: Practical intelligence is the ability that individuals use to find the best fit between themselves and the demands of the environment. A person’s practical intelligence is seen as the ability to adapt quickly to an unfavourable conditions and confidently navigate their surroundings. It is known as "Street Smarts". It looks at a person's ability to adapt to everyday life. An example of practical intelligence is someone being able to make their way home without any money or a map. Practical intelligence is one of the best predictors of your success in life.

Creative intelligence: Creative intelligence allows us to raise hypotheses, conjecture, to see new possibilities and to speculate. Creativity uses imagination and applies it to what is new, to solve problems, and even to formulate new ones. Creative intelligence is the ability to go beyond the existing to create novel and interesting ideas. Creative people come up with ideas that are like undervalued stocks, which are generally rejected by the public at large.

Analytical intelligence: Analytical intelligence is the ability to analyze and evaluate ideas, solve problems and make decisions. Creative intelligence involves going beyond what is given to generate novel and interesting ideas. It includes the ability to identify patterns and make accurate predictions about the outcome of complex events.
